On a little bit of a delay, this is entry number two in the Latest Listening series.

February was a lot less musical than January, with only 866 listens (535 unique) compared to 1583 last month.  The number of different artists was pretty damn close though, 165 this month vs. 176 last.  I listened to the Red Hot Chili Peppers more than anyone else, and more than any other album I was listening to Unlimited Love, with Return of the Dream Canteen also charting at #3.

Just like January, my top track wasn’t from my top artist or their top album.  This time, it was “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing” by Black Star, the highlight of their last LP and a song I can’t stay away from no matter what.

Some other stuff I had on in February: “Bella” by RHCP, with perhaps their best and funkiest instrumental since at least Stadium Arcadium; “Alien Crime Lord” by the Voidz, a singularly and beautifully weird song about…being an alien crime lord (the outro is legitimately one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard, especially if you have the right version); “Blue Again” by Weakened Friends, a song that sounds like a nervous breakdown in a way that makes you feel like you shouldn’t really be listening to it; and “Room 712, the Apache” and “High Time” by Michael Penn, one of the best songwriters to ever live.

Everything here is great (of course I would think that), but if you just want one top-line track, try “Room 712, the Apache.”
